Preparatory systems before primers enable you to start with a surface that is consistent with the paint application. The surface must first be degreased, sanded or blasted, depending on the substrate and the process selected. It is essential to respect the cycle for optimum cohesion between coats.

Filling in scratches, levelling out deformations, redoing profiles, coatings are used to prepare the surface of your boat.
Before applying protective or finishing paint, the filler must be applied between two coats of primer, then protected with a multi-layer coating.

Applying a topcoat is the ultimate step in painting. Our single- or two-component finishing systems will enhance your boat’s appearance and provide a lasting protective barrier against the elements (such as sun, rain, wind and abrasion).

How to choose and apply an epoxy primer?

Do you have a new boat that you want to protect? Do you need to repaint your boat underwater? Choose the right primer.

Why use an epoxy primer?

Unlike antifouling, which is a low-resin paint, the primer creates a durable interface between the gelcoat and the antifouling. It also reinforces its adhesion.

The benefits of an epoxy primer: frequently used in the boating industry, epoxy is very durable when immersed in water. However, a number of precautions need to be taken when applying it, and you need to know how to choose the right product for the job.

Choosing my epoxy primer

If your boat is fairly new or shows no signs of damp, you can use Epoxygard primer in multi-layers (4 to 5) to create a barrier that reinforces protection against damp.

This product is also highly effective as an osmosis treatment (combined with Impregard) or as an anti-corrosion primer for aluminium. Epoxygard is formulated with lamellar fillers to slow the progress of water through the layers.

For a boat refit, after removing the old antifouling, you want to reinforce the existing protection select HPE in 1 or 2 coats.

This thick product is very easy to apply and dries quickly.

You can then apply your antifouling, erodible or hard matrix, in 2 coats.
