The Tara Ocean Foundation and Nautix have signed a technical partnership for marine paints.
During its winter refit, Nautix paints were applied to the emblematic 30-metre exploration schooner, in preparation for the new 2-year mission along the coasts of Europe, from Lorient to Lorient via 19 stopover countries.
Tara Europa, the name of the new expedition, aims to study coastal ecosystems and their responses to various forms of chemical pollution (agriculture, river discharges, etc.) and climate change.
More than 40 teams of scientists will measure the impact of synthetic products such as pesticides, antibiotics and microplastics on marine microbial communities, and use the knowledge gained to explore remedial strategies.
The expedition’s stopovers will provide an opportunity to raise awareness and educate people about ocean conservation, through exchanges between the general public, schoolchildren, the scientific community and political leaders.
To prepare for these new voyages, Nautix has chosen to apply its PA anti-corrosion primer and A1 special aluminium antifouling to Tara’s hull. These products benefit from work carried out over many years to reduce the impact of paints on the environment.
Matthieu Taburet, Sales Director of NAUTIX, commented,
“By becoming an official supplier to the foundation, Nautix is affirming its long-term commitment to the research and development of responsible solutions for the protection of ships’ hulls”.
